Zachary - A Poem By Devina Cashion-Patterson

Oh my son, I miss you more than you know,

I want to smell your sweet head and count your tiny toes.

I want to hold you close and rock you to sleep each night,

I want to see your smiling face at the dawn of each day's light.

I want to see you sit, crawl, and take your first giant leap,

I'll forever remember you, the baby I couldn't keep.

I want to see your baby face with its little baby glow,

How much mommy loves you, I hope you'll always know.

I can't be there to see you grow into a man,

I can't be there to comfort you and hold your tiny hand.

Until I live no more, I'll hold you tightly in my heart,

I'll feel sorrow and grief for all the time we've been apart.

But when I take my last dying breath, the joy I'll feel, nothing could compare,

To know that when I walk through Heaven's pearly gates, you'll be waiting there.

A beautiful love story; a parent’s love is perhaps the deepest most of us will know; my mother’s dying words at 96 were telling us she loved us. Your words remind me of that moment. Thank you fir sharing such intimate, personal thoughts. 🩷
