I COULD BE ANYTHING

I Could Be Anything

I was once told
When I was 4 years old
That I could be anything I wanted
At 17
I learned what that would mean
And all my dreams became daunted
At 25
I still failed to thrive
With no dreams to be flaunted
At 49
I embraced my shine
And now I no longer feel haunted

At age 4, Eryn is told they can be anything, embracing the boundless possibilities of youth.
By 17, the harsh realities of achieving those dreams set in, making them seem daunting.
At 25, Eryn feels they haven't thrived, with no dreams to show off.
At 49, Eryn finally embraces their own worth, no longer feeling haunted by past limitations or fears.

The poem is a testament to the idea that personal growth often involves overcoming the shadows of one's past to step into one's own light, a message that resonates deeply with human experience.

No guaranteed timelines. Differs for us all. Late bloomers are usually the best because they have the life experiences and maturity. Better late than never.

Thank you, Luis. It was very heartbreaking when I was told that the dreams I wanted to achieve (they weren't lofty or set too high and/or unrealistic at all) were not good enough and that I would be a miserable unworthy adult if I pursued them. I'm happy now of course but that definitely has not always been the case.
