I BUMPED INTO MY YOUNGER SELF THE OTHER DAY

I bumped into my younger self the other day.
Smiling and laughing. She saw me then turned away.
But I had very important stuff that I needed to say.
So I started walking towards her, undaunted in any way.

I grabbed her in a hug and I said HELLO!
She hugged me tightly back, her face aglow.
I asked WHY DID YOU COME? WHEN YOU DIDN’T WANT TO GO?
YOU KNOW HE’S NOT FAITHFUL. And she said I KNOW.

Softly I said, as I gently touched her shoulder.
YOU KNOW THAT YOU ARE ME AND I AM YOU, WHEN YOU ARE OLDER.
And suddenly her demeanor got just a little bolder.
Oh how I remembered how our eyes could smolder!

I say YOU SHOULD WALK AWAY NOW, BEFORE IT GETS TOO HARD.
BECAUSE THAT BOY IS NO GOOD FOR YOU, AND HE WILL ONLY LEAVE YOU SCARRED.
YOUR HEART WILL BE IN PIECES. THE EDGES A LITTLE CHARRED.
AT THE VERY LEAST, DON’T LET DOWN YOUR MENTAL GUARD.

She crossed her arms and tapped her foot. Asked me why I care.
Told me how none of this seemed to really be that fare
Turned around and glanced at the boy, her eyes filled with despair.
Said PLEASE TELL ME THERE’S SOMETHING GOOD, IN WHAT YOU’RE ABOUT TO SHARE?

I told her it gets easier. Or maybe, we just get more smart.
That over the next few years, she would need to protect her heart.
That he wouldn’t be the last one to try, and rip it all apart.
That tomorrow is a brand new day, and she could make a fresh new start.

She looked at me. REALLY looked at me.. and slowly shook her head.
I said DON’T BE SCARED TO WALK THIS PATH. JUST PAY ATTENTION TO WHERE IT LEAD.
She said, I KNEW THIS MORNING THAT IT WAS A WASTE TO GET UP OUT OF BED.
IS THERE ANYTHING ABOUT MY FUTURE, THAT I SHOULDN’T DREAD?
I said SO MUCH! Left it at that. And grabbed one last hug instead.
BUT IN FIVE YEARS, YOU’LL MEET YOUR JAMES. The rest I left unsaid.
I waved goodbye. Made my way outside… before one tear was shed.

You got me thinking if there was 1 chance to meet the younger me. At what point of his life would I step in with advice. In my head I had to choose before I was 18, even then it wouldn't be easy to choose when I'd step through to meet with me. 90% of your writing makes me think deeply 10% makes me want to do crimes towards males you have known or maybe it's switched around
