A Letter To Myself
(Poetry Prompt - Write a letter to your 100 year old self. Wordpress)

A letter to myself?
Whatever would I write?
Would I describe how very much
I love the pale moonlight?

Reminisce about memories
From my childhood?
Complain about how often
I’m misunderstood?

Talk about how I never
Wanted to marry?
Or how I love paranormal
But nothing too scary?

I know I’d fill up pages
All about my son.
He’s my moon and my stars
He’s my number one.

But wouldn’t I already
Know all of this?
Like when I was thirteen
And I got my first kiss?

Or when I was sixteen
And I got my heart shattered?
I think I’d remember all
That truly mattered.

How at 49, I finally
Found my voice.
Finally learned how
To make the right choice.

Would I mention that I had
Started to heal?
From my pain and trauma
That for so long was too real?

I think I’d skim over
My traumatic past.
Put more effort in writing
About what was a blast.

But everything would wrap back around
To my favorite joy.
And how I was fifty
With a thirteen year old boy!

And how that boy became a man
With a heart made of gold.
He makes you so proud
With such gifts to behold.

I’d say, you really had many
Answered Prayers.
You were able to sort through
All of your layers.

I’d say to myself
As I finished my letter.
With each passing year
You get better and better.

Your body might’ve gotten old
But your spirits always young.
Through generations of our family
Your praise will unfailingly be sung!

Eryn, I have to say, your poem is absolutely stunning. The way you weave words together is so captivating, pulling the reader into this rich, emotional world you’ve created. The imagery is incredibly vivid, painting such clear pictures in my mind, and the rhythm of it all just flows so effortlessly. You have a genuine gift for poetry, and it’s impressive how much depth and feeling you’ve packed into every line. Truly well done!

Thank you, Zeus! I might end up adding more to it eventually, kind of like I touched up that other poem yesterday. I definitely think there is more to my story, so to speak. Lol

A great warrior probably told her son to look at the future through gentle eyes and a mind that's fair so his heart is just. Leaving trails as she's won and didn't fare well with the battles teaching her son he won't win every battle. We can't predict our future but we can teach how a warrior is gentle, true and revered
