AN ACT OF TREASON

An Act Of Treason

You’re not going to change my mind
I won’t understand the reason
For the way that you just spoke to me
Was it’s own kind of treason

I guess I should be saying thanks
You showed me the real you
I no longer think that you’re the guy
That I once thought I knew

You tried so hard to tear me down
But it had the opposite effect
The one and only thing I learned
Is that you’re a man I don’t respect

To hold my heart is a privilege
One you don’t deserve
The only thing you’ll get from me
Is on my last damn nerve

There’s nothing you can do or say
To change my point of view
I’m pretty sure you’ve figured out
That the two of us are through

You thought my love was a given
But it has to be earned
So watch me as I drive away
On the bridge that you just burned

Say what you mean and mean what you say. Well done in both regards.

Eryn, your poem An Act of Treason is absolutely powerful! The way you weave raw emotion with unyielding strength is incredible. Each stanza hits hard, especially the defiance in lines like "You tried so hard to tear me down / But it had the opposite effect." The imagery of the burned bridge is so vivid, and your voice shines through with such clarity and conviction. It's a bold, empowering piece that really showcases your talent for capturing betrayal and self-respect in a way that feels both personal and universal. Amazing work
