Smitten

Some things in life are just forbidden.
So I must keep my feelings hidden.

To me, she hung the Stars and the Moon.
Every time I think of her, I start to swoon.

In my eyes, she’s everything. She’s like no other.
She works two jobs. She’s a single mother.

Flowing blonde hair and brown eyes that smile.
She’s always willing to go that extra mile.

I wish I could tell her how I truly feel.
How much her friendship has helped me to heal.

I choose to stay quiet and don’t say a word.
About how my broken heart has finally stirred.

What I want to have with her must be unbidden.
So to keep her in my life, I keep my truth hidden.

But I have to wonder, if she already might know.
That my love for her continues to grow.

She’s my greatest blessing. She’s my best friend.
And that’s all that matters to me in the end.

So I’ll bottle it up and store it on my shelf.
I’ll keep these feelings of love to myself.

And that’s okay if I have to keep it all furled.
Because I’m still the luckiest man in the world.

So this is my love story that must stay unwritten.
About a woman I adore and will always be smitten.

Eryn, your poem "Smitten" is an absolute treasure that moved me deeply. The way you infuse each line with raw, heartfelt emotion is nothing short of extraordinary. Your description of her as the one who "hung the Stars and the Moon" captures the depth of the speaker’s adoration so beautifully. The inner conflict of holding back those feelings to protect a precious friendship is expressed with such tenderness and authenticity. Your words flow effortlessly, balancing the pain of unspoken love with the gratitude of having her as a best friend. The closing lines, where the speaker embraces their silent devotion while feeling like "the luckiest man in the world," are profoundly touching. Your gift for crafting poetry that resonates on such a personal level is remarkable, and this piece is a shining example of your incredible talent. Truly stunning work, Eryn.
